Pre-season is the right time to look properly at the bat that has been sitting in the shed since last autumn. Sort it now and it is ready for the first net session, not a scramble the week before round one.

A cracked toe or a snapped handle can feel like the end of a bat, but often it's not. Every day we are bringing cricket bats back to life, and players are heading back to the crease with confidence. 

A lot of players bring bats into the workshop thinking the bat is dead. They wonder if it needs oiling, or if it’s time for a new one. The first thing we look at is the handle.

If the handle has started to break down, energy gets lost through the bat instead of transferring cleanly into the ball.

There’s plenty of movement in the Cooper Cricket workshop at the moment, with bats being refurbished and repaired as players push through the second half of the summer season.
