Repairs and restoration: what our Brisbane workshop can bring back

Before you write it off

A cracked toe or a snapped handle feels like the end of a bat. Often it is not. Our Brisbane workshop repairs and restores bats every week that their owners had already half given up on, and a lot of them go back better than they were.

Whatever the make and whatever the age, if it is a cricket bat, we can almost certainly help. Here is the kind of work we do.

Everyday repairs

Most repairs are the honest wear and tear of a season. A cracked or worn face that needs a clean-up. Toe damage, from small chips to swelling and moisture, repaired or grafted if it is far gone. Edges and faces that have lifted or delaminated. Cracked shoulders. A grip that has melted in a hot car, or worn through. A handle that has gone dead, come loose, or is simply the wrong size, replaced or reshaped.

Then there are the bigger ones. When part of a bat is actually gone, a chunk out of the toe or an edge, we graft in new English willow and blend it back. That is the repair that saves bats other people would call a write-off. And if a bat has always felt too heavy or never picked up how you wanted, we can reshape and re-balance it in the workshop.

The Cooper repair promise

Two things we are proud of. First, standard repairs are guaranteed back to you within ten days of your bat reaching the workshop, or it costs you nothing. If you need it sooner, we have Jump the Queue options that run right down to same day.

Vintage restoration is a different thing entirely

Some bats that come to us are not about this season at all. They are an old club bat, a family heirloom, or a piece of cricket history. A cricket bat is never just a cricket bat: there is love in an old one, and lessons, and life. Dad in the backyard. A grandfather's bat he treasured. When one arrives, someone is trusting us with their story, and we never forget what a privilege that is.

A restoration is a slower, deeper process than a repair, and we do not rush it. We take the bat back to bare willow, lift off old facings and stickers, and repair the cracks and chips the years have left. Splits, broken toes and tired handles are repaired, grafted or replaced, and the handle re-bound for a solid feel. Then fresh oil, a new protective facing if you want one, and a hard toe to see it through more seasons. You decide the finish: keep the original look, or bring it back to life with new stickers and a grip. Every step is talked through with you first.

How a restoration works

Because every old bat is different, vintage work starts with a quote, not a checkout. You build your quote in the vintage builder, add a few quick photos of the toe, the back, the handle and any damage, and one of our bat makers reviews them, confirms the work and emails your invoice. Anything major, we talk it through before we start. Then you send it in, pay when you are happy, and follow it through the workshop on its own tracking link.
