How our Custom Bat Builder works

Custom Bat Builder at Cooper Cricket

Every bat starts as a feeling

Long before the first run, before the first net, before you have even held it, your bat starts as a feeling. It is the picture in your head on a slow summer afternoon: the weight of it as you shadow-bat down the hallway, the balance as it comes up into your hands, the sound you already know it will make the first time the ball finds the middle.

Every player carries that picture around. Most of us just never get to draw it.

Our Custom Bat Builder is where you finally do. It is an online tool that lets you design a cricket bat from the ground up, exactly the way you see it, and then we bring it to life by hand in our workshop here in Brisbane. Ten models, five willow grades, and every detail in between, chosen by you. It takes about five minutes, and by the end of it the bat in your head has a shape, a look, and a spot in our workshop queue.

Your bat, one step at a time

Pick your model. Ten profiles, each with its own character. A high middle for the late cutters and back-foot players, a low middle for the front-foot drivers, balanced all-rounders for the players who like to do a bit of everything. Because we profile every bat with precision, each model plays the way it is meant to, every single time.

Design your look. This is the fun part. Start from one of our preset colourways, then open the palette and make it yours: your club colours, something loud, or something nobody has ever seen before. Choose a grip colour to finish it off. Every sticker is printed in-house at the Brisbane workshop, raised and glossy, and it will be the first thing your teammates notice when you walk out to bat.

Set your size, grade and weight. Choose your size, then your willow grade, five to pick from, Performance through to Ultimate, each with its own grain count and standard. Then set your weight. The weight you choose is the weight you get, because we grade and hand-select every cleft before it ever reaches the bench.

Customise the build. Set your blade length, choose your face protection, then shape the handle to your hands: the profile, the length, the thickness. Pick your toe, and whether you want a hard toe guard and binding. These are the small things that make a bat feel like it was made for you, because it was.

Add the finishing touches. Add laser engraving for your name, your initials, or a mark that means something only to you, burned into the blade to stay. Review the whole build, top to bottom, and place your order. Five minutes, and the picture in your head is on its way to becoming timber.

Ready for the nets, not for homework

When your bat arrives, it is ready to go. Every Cooper bat leaves the workshop hand-oiled, knocked in with around 15,000 compressions and then hand-finished, edges boned, toe given that little bit extra. The face protection is on. The grip is fitted by hand.

We call that net-ready, and we mean it. There is no weekend lost to a mallet and a swear jar. Take it to the nets first, spend a session or two getting to know each other, and let it learn your hands before you both walk out into the middle.

From your screen to the crease

Once you order, your bat joins the queue and the making begins. Standard builds take 14 to 21 days from order to dispatch, and every one is tracked through our workshop, so you always know where yours is up to. If the season will not wait, you can Jump the Queue and we will get it to you sooner. Your checkout runs through Shopify, so your details are handled with the highest level of card security.

Then a box turns up on your doorstep with your name on it, and inside is the bat you drew in your head one slow afternoon, made real by hands in our Brisbane workshop.

Go on, draw it
