At Cooper Cricket, we’re proudly Australian made—from start to finish. Every bat is produced in our Brisbane workshop using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge CNC technology. We don’t outsource a single step—because controlling every part of the process means we can guarantee quality, consistency, and performance.

We’re here when you need us. Whether it’s a question about your bat, a custom request, or a chat about what gear suits your game—we’ll talk with you with straight-up, honest advice from the people who actually make the bats.

We don’t just sell bats. We build relationships, back our craft, and take pride in every cricket bat that leaves the workshop. That’s the Cooper Cricket difference.

TO CONCAVE OR NOT TO CONCAVE

Whilst we would like every bat to be a humongous and a full the reality is it is hard to do this on light bats. Depending on the weight you want your cricket bat depends on if we need to concave your bat or not. so lets talk about it.

NO CONCAVING

We call this our "A" shape.

In a full adult size bat, this is possible on cricket bats that weight 2.10lbs (1200 grams) or above. We would also expect that your edges would be close to 40mm and the spine of the bat would be between 60mm to 65mm.

MILD CONCAVING

We call this our "B" shape.

In a full adult size bat, where the weight required is from 2.8lbs (1130grams) up to 2.95lbs (1180grams) we would expect that mild concaving will be needed to ensure that your edges remain close to 40mm and the spine of the bat remains between 60mm to 65mm.

MAXIMUM CONCAVING

We call this our "C" shape.

In a full adult size bat, where the weight required is from 2.5lbs (1050grams) up to 2.79lbs (1125grams) we would expect that Maximum concaving may be nessecary to ensure that your edges remain between 35mm to 40mm and the spine of the bat remains between 58mm to 62mm.

SO WHAT DOES IT ALL REALLY MEAN?

Everyone wants a big bat—and we get it. That’s exactly what we aim to deliver, especially when making custom bats. It’s the beauty of choosing Cooper Cricket: we’re always working to get the best possible result, based on the bat you need and the willow grade you’ve chosen.

To make sure we get the absolute best out of every cleft of English willow, we use our own AI-supported calculator. It helps us match each piece of willow perfectly to the bat we’re making, ensuring the ideal size, balance, and pickup—every time.

It’s extremely rare that we ever need to use a pronounced “C” shape (heavy concaving) when making our bats. However, if an ultra, ultra-light bat is required, some additional shaping might be necessary to achieve the right balance.

That said, when a bat is pressed properly—as every Cooper Cricket bat is—it will perform brilliantly, no matter the level of concaving, provided you strike the ball through the middle with good technique.

One thing’s for sure: whatever shape or weight you choose, we’ll make sure your bat is pressed perfectly to get the best out of it.
