Bat Knock-in Service
Traditional knocking in for new-age cricket bats. Every bat is knocked in by hand in our Brisbane workshop, and any brand is welcome.
Our process: we oil the willow first to soften it, then hand knock the bat with a specialised heavy mallet, paying particular attention to the edges and toe. We then bone the edges and toe until they meet our high standards.
Why by hand? Because a bat needs enough work to build its protective surface layer and no more. Published research on knocking in found surface hardness climbs to a peak and then falls away again as the surface cells become damaged, and in willow that peak comes at around two hours. Willow also varies from cleft to cleft, so no two bats want the same amount of work. Hands feel that; a fixed cycle cannot. Read what knocking in actually does to a cricket bat.
Your bat comes back net ready. You could take it straight into a match, but we recommend time in the nets first. Every bat is different, even two built to the same spec, and a new bat needs time for you to get to know it.
In Brisbane? Drop your bat into the Northgate workshop. Anywhere else in Australia? Add the knock-in to your cart, then post your bat in with a note of your name and number.

Shipping and delivery
Free standard shipping on Australian orders over $150. Most in-stock orders ship within 1 to 2 business days. Made-to-order bats and repairs go out once they are ready, usually 14 to 21 days. We will keep you posted along the way.
Returns and warranty
Every Cooper is backed by our workshop. If something is not right, talk to us. See our refund policy for change of mind and faulty items. Willow is a natural product, so fair wear and tear is part of the game, but we will always look after you.
Knock-in and care
A new bat needs knocking in and oiling before it faces a hard ball. Every standard bat leaves us professionally knocked in, and our knock-in service covers any other bat.
