Cricket bats with new handles at Cooper Cricket Brisbane

RE-HANDLING YOUR CRICKET BAT

A lot of players bring bats into the workshop thinking the bat is dead. They wonder if it needs oiling, or if it’s time for a new one. The first thing we look at is the handle.

If the handle has started to break down, energy gets lost through the bat instead of transferring cleanly into the ball.

70 YEARS YOUNG

70 YEARS YOUNG

The bat arrived in a condition only a true cricket hero could still admire. The back was almost entirely blackened from age, moisture, and decades of wear. The grip had melted. The binding had disintegrated entirely. The handle was damaged and required sections to be rebuilt. A significant graft was needed down at the toe to return to its original shape. It was tired. WHAT IS YOUR WARRANTY POLICY?

WHAT IS YOUR WARRANTY POLICY?

At Cooper Cricket, we meticulously craft your bat to meet all your specific needs and preferences. While we would love for our bats to last a lifetime, we understand that cricket bats aren’t indestructible. With the increased use of artificial balls and the modern demand for big bats with large middles, big edges, and light weights, the cricket willow used today is drier than ever before. This drying process, necessary to meet these demands, means that bats, if not maintained properly, may break or get damaged more often.

FIX YOUR OLD BAT OR BUY A NEW BAT?

This is a very tricky question and one without a straightforward answer. There is no standard amount of time or use that determines when it is time to buy a new cricket bat. A bat can last many years. Some say it will last roughly 1000-1500 runs. Others prefer to measure it as three or four seasons, but it all depends on how much you use it and how well you maintain it.
