Italy has created history by securing a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
Captained by former Australian cricketer Joe Burns, Cricket Italy’s qualification came through the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2025, where Italy delivered impressive performances, notching up key wins over Guernsey and Scotland. With these victories, Italy became the 13th team to book their place in the 2026 tournament. Soon after, the Netherlands became the 14th to qualify from the same regional pathway.
Italy’s debut qualification highlights the expansion and globalisation of cricket, especially in non-traditional regions. It reflects years of development and growing interest in the sport across Europe, with Italy emerging as a competitive associate nation.
